A Coverdell Education Savings Account is a great solution to help parents save for their children’s education expenses. - Eligibility - any individual meeting the following income qualifications (adjusted gross income must be below $110,000 for single or $220,000 for married filing jointly)
- Maximum contribution amount up to $2,000 per individual beneficiary
- Benefits may be used for elementary, secondary or even higher education expenses at an eligible education institution
- Distributions are tax-free when used for qualified education expenses (i.e. tuition, books, fees, etc. Consult tax advisor for more details)
- Beneficiary must be under age 18 or is a special-needs beneficiary
- The balance of the account must be distributed when beneficiary reaches age 30
- Balances may be rolled over to another coverdell account for another family member
